This marks the birth of VintageWood. The concept of vintage is derived from the old French word vendenge, (now vendange), applied to each yearly crop of the most prized wines. “Prized” in our context refers to the wood we recover from traditional haylofts, mills and country houses. This wood was once lived in and was therefore alive but now risks a death sentence unless transformed into some other thing.
Our work is no mere exercise in nostalgia, the philosophy that makes sense of everything we do is the drive for reuse.
The vintage experience means knowing how to value that heritage that belongs to us and must not be thrown away. It is an ethical rather than a mere fashion choice.
in which styles and materials
are mixed together to create
completely original environments,
extensions of the personality of the people desiring them.”
Here are the reasons for choosing us.
BECAUSE IT’S A RESPONSIBLE LIFE CHOICEA tree continues to “live” in our flooring, also keeping captured for centuries the carbon that, if released, would aggravate the greenhouse effect. Opting for wood is already in itself an eco-friendly choice. Moreover, using only recovered wood places our products within the virtuous flow of the circular economy.
BECAUSE WE ARE 21ST CENTURY JUNK DEALERSWe tour Italy in person in search of beams, flooring and roofing to give a second life to. We are particularly keen on the seeking out stage because it fires our imagination about what is to come, a bit like a tailor imaging a new piece of clothing by running his fingers over some leftover cloth. We have also decided to limit our quest to Italy in order to be certain of good quality wood.
BECAUSE WITH US YOU WILL HAVE A REAL EXPERIENCEVintage wood is a passion to be sampled gently. It can be felt by taking a stroll among all those planks piled up in our warehouse in which each piece has its own story to be listened to carefully. It strikes the heart in different ways depending on the person observing it, sometimes for its aesthetics, sometimes for its history. When you have formed your own relationship with a piece, the experience continues in our showroom in which abstract concepts have already taken shape.
“We embody both passion
and technical expertise”
The first tool we use on recovered wood is the metal-detector. Each piece is scanned to find nails or other metal pieces that must be removed before the wood can be worked on. Once any nails have been removed, any woodworm is treated and after cleaning and fixing any flaws, the wood’s technical properties are no different from new wood. This whole process is performed entirely by hand. The company team is made up of expert designers and installers with years of training and experience on building sites. This means that the definitive design will not only be beautiful but also well-made.
