The home’s
horizontal space.

Flooring is the base on which everything else rests. It is home to the furniture, it intersects with the walls and it influences the perception of light.

To achieve a vintage effect maintaining all the charm of antique parquet, the exterior part of the original planks is left on view, that which is known as first patina, the surfaces that tell the story of all those who have walked on the wood in the past. To enhance these signs of times past which give recovered wood its unique aesthetic, the surfaces are not re-finished but merely cleaned.

If this vintage effect is not in harmony with the style of the rest of the space, VintageWood also offers second patina flooring when the underneath part of the original planks is on view as this has no sign of previous footfall and can be given a wide range of finishes. In both situations the recovered wood is then paired with a multilayer base of birch. It is possible to choose large formats alternating with joint features, chiselling in darker shades to display geometric motifs, inlays interspersed with other materials such as weathering steel, stone or brickwork.

Flooring

Solid,
Second and First patina.

A tree continues to “live” in our flooring, also keeping captured for centuries the carbon that, if released, would aggravate the greenhouse effect. Opting for wood is already in itself an eco-friendly choice. Moreover, using only recovered wood places our products within the virtuous flow of the circular economy.

Zero impact
flooring and wall coverings

This is the line that we at VintageWood value most because it represents the maximum expression of our idea of sustainability.

This is because we use only solid wood that has been recovered and not paired with a multilayer base. Treatments with water-based varnish, oils and natural wax and cutting processes performed with electricity generated by our photovoltaic system make this an extremely eco-friendly product from every point of view.

The home’s
vertical space.

The vertical extension of the image created by the flooring or an opposite contrasting design, the French term boiserie is a decorative technique used on wood panelling applied to the walls and which emphasises the personality of the space. Once associated with a strictly classical style, considered rather too ornate, it has now been revived by contemporary designers reinterpreting it in a more lightweight key. Applied to just a few sections of the walls or extending from floor to ceiling, boiserie is a decorative feature able to endow even the most modern spaces with great personality, also due to the added value of the unique, unrepeatable nature of recovered wood.

We at VintageWood particularly enjoy using this in an unconventional way, emphasising particular features of the room, giving otherwise rather ordinary walls a very specific personality or creating decorative room dividers to animate the spaces.

Wall coverings
Features

Some of the features of products in recovered vintage wood:

  • cracks of varying visibility either long or sideways;
  • colour variations within the same items and in the same consignment;
  • repair plugs;
  • nail holes from previous fixings;
  • missing knots;
  • restoring stucco;
  • parts that may come away in small pieces;
  • planks of variable width and length in the same consignment.

Advice

Vintage Wood advises against the use of first patina wood flooring in environments on which people may walk in bare feet or just socks or where physical activity is done because it has parts that may become detached, sometimes in the form of splinters that can easily cause abrasions to people or animals. The purchaser is aware of this problem and therefore relieves Tofano S.r.l. of all liability.
